Distorted Communication Between Your Brain and Body
The average person has 206 bones in their body, 33 of them comprising the spinal column. Whenever two bones come together to form a joint, there is the potential for movement. The greatest movement in the spine is within the upper cervical spine.
The joints of the upper cervical spine move near your brainstem, spinal cord and other important nerve fibers. If these joints “lock” in a misaligned position, they can irritate delicate nerve tissue. This irritation can distort the vital communication between your brain and body. The result is a vertebral subluxation.
Like a music conductor, your Nerve System directs every organ, gland and tissue of your body. A vertebral subluxation interferes with the way nerves control and regulate your body. Muscles can become too tight or too weak. Connective tissue, such as discs and ligaments, can become inflamed. Bone spurs and arthritic degeneration can set in. This can have unhealthy consequences beyond just headaches and backaches.
How do you get a vertebral subluxation?
There are three basic causes of a vertebral subluxation: Physical trauma, chemical toxins or emotional stress. Physical causes include slips and falls, accidents, repetitive motions and improper lifting. Stress, anger and fear are examples of emotional causes of a subluxation. Alcohol, drugs, pollution and poor diet can be chemical causes of a vertebral subluxation.
How do I know if I have a vertebral subluxation?
You can have a subluxation and not even know it. Like tooth decay or heart disease, a subluxation can exist before warning signs appear. A thorough examination can show the location and severity of a subluxation.
Can a subluxation clear up on its own?
Sometimes. Today’s hectic lifestyles constantly “fuel the fire” of a vertebral subluxation. Fortunately, our bodies can self-correct many minor problems as we bend, stretch, or sleep at night. When a subluxation doesn’t resolve, a chiropractic examination is warranted.
Can children get a subluxation?
Your first vertebral subluxation can occur from the birth process. Modern childbirth methods can put tremendous pressure on an infant’s spine. Poor appetite, unexplained crying and sleeplessness may be signs of a vertebral subluxation.
Chiropractors are healthcare professionals dedicated to the detection and reduction of subluxations. Chiropractic helps restore the integrity of the spine and Nerve System with safe and natural care.
